Bob Boyce, who has invented a super-efficient electrolysis method, as well as a self-looping electrical circuit capable of charging batteries, discovered a microchip implant in his shoulder when having a tumor removed from that spot, which metastasized. It turns out the chip was made by VeriChip.

Inventor’s terminal cancer courtesy of Verichip?

by Sterling D. Allan

Bob Boyce is a famous inventor in the world of ultra-efficient electrolysis and hydroxy research. The chip found in his shoulder at the point of tumor formation turns out to be manufactured by VeriChip.

On Nov. 12, we reported that a South African experimenter has modified an electrolysis circuit developed by Bob Boyce so that now it recharges his daughter’s electric vehicle riding toy. We said that what makes this remarkable is that the energy is not drawn from the wall but from the environment somehow; and that he’s done this around 35 times now and knows of three replications of the effect by others. We created a feature page and a discussion list to facilitate additional replications and development of the technology

We also reported in the same story that we had become aware the day before that Bob Boyce has “terminal” cancer, and that his days are numbered if some kind of remedy isn’t found.

On Nov. 12, Bob wrote:

The cancer that I have developed was not directly due to my research, as many have suggested. Having said that, it did occur under suspicious circumstances. When I was in Florida earlier this year, I noticed a small, hard lump had appeared under the skin of my right shoulder. I wondered where it came from, of course, but did not give it much thought. Over time, the skin over and around the lump turned reddish and became sore.

A few months ago, while working with an EMF meter on the bench in my lab, I noticed that I was picking up a weak signal. Nothing else was running at the time, so I tried locating the source, and traced it to the lump in my shoulder! I made arrangements with my doctor to have it removed, and he suspected a common skin cancer.

The object itself was tiny, about the size of a dry grain of rice, surrounded by a white fibrous shell. It had numerous nerves attached to it.

Once it had been removed, it ceased sending out a signal, as verified by my portable EMF detector.

I wanted to keep it and analyze it myself, but my doctor convinced me to let him send it off to the lab. My doctor sent it and the surrounding tissue off for pathology. Not surprisingly, there was absolutely no mention of the object itself in the pathology report.

The surrounding tissue turned out to be this rare form of cancer that has been linked to excessive x-ray exposure in x-ray technicians. The surgery had disturbed the cancer and sent cancer cells throughout my blood stream. The margins were not clear, indicating that the cancer was still present at the incision site, as well as clear indications now that the cancer has spread. I can’t blame the doctor really, as at the time we did not know that it was not a simple skin cancer.

What I really want to know is, what was this object, and how in the heck did it get imbedded in the skin of my shoulder without me knowing about it?

Many of you have sent us emails and made phone calls suggesting various possible cures. We are hopeful that with the information that has come Bob’s way that he will be able to secure a complete cure from his cancer.

Meanwhile, on Thanksgiving evening Bob called and left a voice message in which he informed me that it turns out that the chip that was implanted in his shoulder was made by VeriChip, a company that makes implantable microchips.

According to the VeriChip VeriMed page:

About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip is inserted just under the skin and contains only a unique, 16-digit identifier. The microchip itself does not contain any other data other than this unique electronic ID, nor does it contain any Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking capabilities. And unlike conventional forms of identification, the Health Link cannot be lost, stolen, misplaced, or counterfeited. It is safe, secure, reversible, and always with you.

Close-up of a VeriChip implant device, the size of a small grain of rice.

Another page on their site describes the RFID technology, which is an essential component of their chips, and the proximity required for reading different kinds of chips, such as those used in automated toll collection.

In his message to me, Bob referred me to a website, AntiChips.com, which documents the link between embedded RFID microchips and tumor formation. It cites a paper, Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006, and summarizes it as follows:

CASPIAN’s new report … is a definitive review of research showing a causal link between implanted radio-frequency (RFID) microchip transponders and cancer in laboratory rodents and dogs. It was written in part to correct industry misstatements and misinformation circulating about the studies.

The report evaluates eleven articles previously published in toxicology and pathology journals. In six of the articles, between 0.8% and 10.2% of laboratory mice and rats developed malignant tumors around or adjacent to the microchips. Two additional articles reported microchip-related cancer in dogs.

In almost all cases, the malignant tumors, typically sarcomas, arose at the site of the implants and grew to surround and fully encase the devices. These fast-growing, malignant tumors often led to the death of the afflicted animals. In many cases, the tumors metastasized or spread to other parts of the animals. The implants were unequivocally identified as the cause of the cancers.

This is one story you will want to pass on to your networks to get the word out about the kinds of nefarious deeds going on to suppress new energy technology that could truly empower people to break free of the powers that be.

I’ve got a few questions for Bob the next time I talk to him.

* How did you find out the chip was made by VeriChip?
* Is your source willing to go on record?
* Are you planning legal action?
* Is it okay for Watkykjy1 to disclose to the B-Hex group the full details of how he built his charging device?

I’ll probably append his responses here.

I also tried to contact VeriChip for a comment, but being a holiday weekend, I haven’t heard back yet.

The Chip is at the tip of the needle....

Thanks to: Grandma Bonnie

This would be WHY they want to force vaccinations. They have tried every
way they can think of to get people to take a chip voluntarily--for health,
for safety, for convenience. Most people know better than to accept a chip.
Now they have a chip this small?? And you would never know you had it.
I figured they are trying to force chips. I thought the chip might be in the
vaccine itself.

Another thing I feel quite sure about, they have made people so dependent on general health care and made it soooo expensive that people will clamor to jump into a decent socialized health care plan. When they do,
they will have to take a chip to be included.

There are many reasons not to take a chip. Primarily, you can be traced wherever. You might not think that is a big deal until you refuse to subscribe to ANY of THEIR rules and you are hunted down like an animal. Also, chips have been proven to create cancerous cells. It taints our electro-magnetic fields. M

Microchip implants ready for use with swine flu vaccine

Among the very first visitors to my birdflu666 blog was an Austrian manufacturer of RFID chips, strongly suggesting the notion that microchips are intended to be used in any mass vaccination campaign, hence the Austrian chip manufacturer's keen interest in my criminal charges against Baxter.

Another US manufacturer in Florida is also working on "pandemic" microchip implants.

Next step in H1N1 scare: Microchip implants
Company developing under-the-skin devices to detect 'bio-threats'

A Florida-based company that boasts selling the world's first and only federally approved radio microchip for implanting in humans is now turning its development branch toward "emergency preparedness," hoping to produce an implant that can automatically detect in its host's bloodstream the presence of swine flu or other viruses deemed a "bio-threat."

VeriChip Corporation currently sells a small, under-the-skin Radio Frequency Identification capsule, or RFID, that patients can opt to have implanted, containing a number computer-linked to their medical records, enabling doctors with a special reader to access the information even if the patient is unconscious or unidentified. The company boasts its microchip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, is the only such implant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

But VeriChip has also turned its attention to other uses for the technology, including microchips that be used to tag and log human remains after a disaster and implants the company hopes will be able to warn if their host is infected with the H1N1 swine flu virus, the H5N1 bird flu virus or other pandemic agents deemed to be a "bio-threat."

VeriChip is working with a Minnesota company, Receptors LLC, to develop the virus-detection technology.

"As we continue to build on our partnership with Receptors, which started with the development of a glucose-sensing RFID implantable microchip, we are moving beyond patient identification to sensors that can detect and identify illnesses and viruses such as influenza," said Scott R. Silverman, chairman of VeriChip, in a statement. "This is an exciting next step for the future of our healthcare division."

According to a joint white paper released earlier this year by both companies called "An Integrated Sensor System for the Detection of Bio-Threats from Pandemics to Emerging Diseases to Bio-Terrorism," the research's goal is to transform existing glucose-detection technology into pinpointing viruses instead, then couple it with an "in vivo" – meaning implanted inside a living organism – microchip that can alert others of the virus' presence.

The ultimate goal is to develop an implant that can also diagnose which virus is infecting the host.

VeriChip has also announced earlier this month additional forays into emergency preparedness through its VeriTrace system.

According to a statement, the company sold a VeriTrace system, including 1,000 RFID microchips, to Kentucky's Green River District Health Department "for disaster preparedness and emergency management needs."

The company explains that VeriTrace, a separate system from its virus detection or patient records technology, was created in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, where it was used by the Federal Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team. The system includes the microchips, a Bluetooth handheld reader, a customized camera that receives both RFID scanned data and GPS data wirelessly and a web-based database for storing information and images captured during emergency response operations.

The microchips are implanted in human remains following a disaster or, according to one report from the Katrina catastrophe, duct-taped to bones, in order to maintain detailed records, particularly in events that result in hundreds or thousands of fatalities.

"This database ensures the precise collection, storage and inventory of all data and images related to remains and the associated evidentiary items," the statement boasts. "This also allows the recreation of an accurate and complete reconstruction of a disaster setting, crime scene or similar setting where recreation is necessary."

Since Hurricane Katrina, the RFID Journal reports, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Hawaii Department of Health, the Florida Emergency Mortuary Operations Response System and the medical examiner's office in the Department of Heath in Erie County, N.Y, have also purchased the system. Earlier this year, VeriChip announced sales to Maryland's Calvert Memorial Hospital and to Mercer and Atlantic counties in New Jersey.

WND contacted VeriChip seeking information on its progress in developing the virus detection technology and other emergency preparedness microchip implants, but received no response.

The Chip is at the Tip of the Needle
By Dr Ryke Geerd Hamer (New GermanMedicine)

Yesterday, 27 August 2009

I was giving an introductory talk about German New Medicine (GNM) near Vienna, Austria. My wife was with me and about 40 listeners. At the end as part of the discussion the swine flu was mentioned and a lady got up and declared the following:

A friend of hers works for a pharmaceutical company in Vienna and told her
that the swine flu injection needles indeed contain nano particles in their
very tip, which cannot be detected with the naked eye but are clearly
visible with as little as a 12 times magnifying microscope like children’s
toy microscopes. The staff of the pharmaceutical company was advised that
these nano particles work in the human body like a motherboard in the
computer and lots of data can be stored on it, which will make cash cards
obsolete. This measure was also intended to do an accurate census and to
protect babies, as many mothers would simply “discard” their newborn,
without knowledge of the authorities.

This lady further disclosed that she was working in the medical field. She
had asked a lawyer who came to her as a patient, how it was possible to
avoid being chipped. He told her that he was aware of the planned chipping
of the population; in fact most upper class members of society were aware of this plan. For this year no forced vaccinations were planned but to rather
encourage people through the media to volunteer for the jab.

In case too few would come forward, forced vaccination was planned for next year. Exempt from those were certain professional groups like the police, medical personal, politicians etc. Being a lawyer, he knew ways for himself to avoid the jab, but for the majority of the population there was no escape

Interview with Dr Gert Hamer (GNM) by Helmut Pilhar (Engineer)
Wednesday, 26. August 2009

Hamer: Within a few days our worst fears were indeed superseded by this
cruel reality.

Pilhar: Geerd, are you talking about the $1000 fine and 30 day arrest
threats for refusal to take the vaccination in the US?

http://thebirdflupandemic.com/archives/1000-per-day-fine-and-30-days-in-jail-for-refusing-the-swine-flu-vaccine-in-massachusetts

Hamer: Yes, but the objectors (death chip opposers are traitors) are not
going to be put into normal prisons but in especially prepared concentration
camps of which hundreds have been prepared all over the country

http://info-kopp-verlag.de/news/amerikanische-konzentrationslager-fertig-und-einsatzbereit.html

And you can leave those only by getting chipped. And once you are outside it
is open season through the death chip. By chance these people are then going
to drop dead like flies after their release.

Pilhar: Are you talking about the beginning of the great population cull?

Hamer: It can only mean that. Otherwise it does not make any sense to get
the military and the police involved, threaten with such draconian penalties
all just to get the people to participate in a simple seasonal flu shot
campaign. It just does not make any other sense. Apart from the fact that
there cannot even be a vaccination like that. You vaccinate in October
(northern autumn) for the next summer. That is totally laughable. With
Tamiflu you can maybe suppress typical healing phase symptoms for 2-3 weeks
and even that is totally brainless in the light of GNM.

Pilhar: It is noteworthy that in the US there are literally many 100000 plastic coffins stock piled http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=39130476

What for? And apart from that the population has been systematically stripped of weapons and protective dogs.

Hamer: You can best understand what the intent is by what is NOT talked
about. One may talk about the vaccination, but nobody mentions the chip
implanting by name. That is really strange because the chipping is the
obvious issue in the face of these massive governmental measures. And that the Hitachi chip works and can be combined with the death chip we already talked about during the last interview.

The same can be seen in how my GNM ( German New Medicine) fared.
For 28 years one was only allowed to discuss Hamer, the “Unperson”, but not whether GNM actually works and whether its claims are repeatable, and can be proven to work, in spite of 30 verified published results. The same applies to Tamuflu!

There are endless discussions about Tamiflu causing harm but none
about the chip. Of course Tamiflu is harmful, it is a poison. It is also very damaging in the healing process or in the vagotonic phase of a pregnancy (last trimester). But the death chip adds a whole new dimension.

That this death chip is going to be used without concern can be seen in the
fact that chemo and morphine have been used without concern in spite of
final mortality rates of 98%, while 98% could have survived with GNM.
Imagine the unscrupulousness of?all oncologists, as they are fully aware
that GNM adds up from a scientific perspective and works

Pilhar: It is also very strange that the Americans have created this
Marshall Law, under which critics can be easily removed by the thousands and millions. And once you have chipped the people they cannot run away from you anymore.

Hamer: It is obvious that this chip battle has been under preparation for
many years. The idiotic swine flu, that does not even really exist, was
actually the wrong tool: 3 dead pigs and one child, dead from who knows what with that they lied and constructed a worldwide pandemic into existence.

But it goes to show what a well organised world press is able to achieve:
They can turn a mole hill into a mountain.

Pilhar: It started with the AIDS lie, then followed the BSE lie. After the
9/11 lie followed the Anthrax lie. Then it was the Bird Flu lie, now it is the Swine Flu lie. Next year we’ll have the Mice Flu lie. It all points to the “Endloesung”, the final solution. When everybody has a chip then that
will constitute the complete slavery, then everybody can be manipulated and
assassinated arbitrarily.

Hamer: First they jump on the babies and the pregnant women. They are first to be treated with chips and Tamiflu. Many of the pregnant women in their last trimester are going to lose their babies, because Tamiflu is totally
toxic. But also the women themselves can die, as their bodies are vagotonic
during the last trimester.? It is a known fact that during vagotonia one flu
shot or one morphine injection can be deadly.

In the meantime there seems to be some panic in the US. Where in the world can you flee to, people are asking themselves, where will you not be
forcibly injected with the death chip and have one free moment away from
your enemies?

One has to consider realistically what it would be like to carry this death
chip and know that any day you can simply be switched off by the Centre in
Tel Aviv. You are completely defenceless against that and complaining won’t
do you any good: “If I only had known...” Therefore it is really important
for the ruling class to keep the people in the dark about it as long as
possible.

Once the slaves have the death chip implanted they are allowed to know about it. Then they will be like trained poodles. Nobody will dare to speak up. It will be like among the Masonic brethren. Everybody knows that the moment he utters a word of dissent, he will be served poison in the coffee by the always Jewish Grand Master and won’t survive another day.

The whole world is going to be a concentration camp full of slaves, except for the members of one religious group. To have the death chip implanted is the potential personal death sentence at any given time.

How naive do you have to be to demand of Mossad and the CIA to disclose what their real intentions are, “to table the facts” The mouse never believes the cat will come.

In a company with several hundred staff, which produces, or better fills the
injection needles for the chip vaccination, it will only need one or two
“reliable” people to insert the chip at the end. Then all the other workers
can confirm that they knew nothing. This is called “quality control” and
“final check” and appears completely normal.

Strange is too that every single chip vaccination needle has its own
individual code number, which is added to the ID number. Why else would the silly “summer flu shot” needle have its own individual number and why should the passport accompany the supposed flu vaccination? And why do the Americans not want to let anybody into the country who does not have a chip?

Pilhar: The „Club of Rome“ declared in the 70s in one of their publications
(possibly in Mankind at the Turning Point ) in effect? that either the birth
rate would have to be reduced or the death rate increased.
The Max Planck Institute believes that the world population must be reduced to 2 billion people. In the US there is the so called “American Stonehenge”

http://www.igeawagu.com/news/corruption/1199237261.html
a message engraved in 100 ton granite blocks, that the world population has to be reduced to 500 million people, to reach an “Era of Reason”.

When you look at the supposed issue of "overpopulation" it is interesting to
note that apparently the State of Texas alone could feed all 6 billion
people. If one piled those 6 billion?bodies with an average weight of 80kg
and a volume of 80 liters on top and side by side of each other in a cube
shape, the sides of this cube would be only 800 meters long. In Austria we
could hide such a cube in the next valley.

I don’t believe in the so called “overpopulation” but rather suppose that
the globalisation fanatics don’t need 6 billion work slaves and therefore
want to reduce the population to one tenth.

Hamer: Helmut, you were right when you said during our last interview on 13
August 2009: „Once they have accomplished that, they have won.“ Therefore
the German New Medicine had to be suppressed, because if this awareness and knowledge had been common place they could not have done it.

“Lewwer duad us Slaav!“ Rather dead than slave! (from Pidder Lueng, by
Detler von Liliencron).
Cheers to the GNM, the New Biological Medicine and a world view of freedom
and truth for us all.

WALMART AND THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

What do the U.S. Department of Defense and Wal-Mart have in common?

The two organizations have become poster children for radio frequency identification (RFID), a technology that will undoubtedly help businesses and other enterprises do a better job of tracking goods, but also makes privacy advocates uneasy. Both organizations are requiring their suppliers to use RFID tags if they want to continue doing business with them.

With RFID, tiny radio transmitters are attached to products. These tags, as they're called, emit radio waves carrying data that's read using special scanners. RFID tags are like high-tech bar codes, only they can hold more data and their signals can be received over a far greater distance.

RFID holds tremendous promise. The Food and Drug Administration is looking into RFID tags for prescription drug packaging to ensure people don't end up getting fake drugs. The Department of Agriculture wants to use RFID to track livestock from birth to the dinner table to avoid breakouts of mad cow disease. And grocery stores envision a day when your shopping cart is so full of "smart" goods that they can alert you to specials in the next aisle based on what you've already picked, then tally your bill without taking anything out of the cart.

Right now, the Department of Defense and Wal-Mart want their suppliers to use RFID tags so they can do a better job of tracking inventory. Wal-Mart toyed with the idea of requiring RFID tags on individual product packaging, but the ensuing furor forced the company to confine the tags to crates, pallets, and other bulk packaging. That's because people aren't sure they want companies to be able to track the individual products they buy.

Of course, if you use a loyalty card at the supermarket or a credit card at the local Gap, businesses already know what you buy. It's no coincidence that the cash register at your grocery store keeps spitting out coupons for a new brand of apple juice when you're always buying Mott's. But RFID tags have the potential to invade personal privacy to a greater extent.

Will Your Underwear Give You Away?
What worries privacy groups is the possibility that RFID tags will continue to transmit information after you've left the store. At a California hearing last year, State Senator Debra Bowden reportedly asked, "How would you like it if, for instance, your underwear was reporting on your whereabouts?"

Is that technologically possible? Yes. Will it happen? Not immediately, if ever. Companies are sensitive to the backlash that RFID might cause, so they're saying all the right things. They've even promised that any tags that go into products would be automatically disabled once the product leaves a store.

But the simple fact is that right now it costs too much to use RFID for every product in every store. Businesses need to pay for the tags themselves--at about a dime per tag--and stores need to build the network infrastructure necessary to monitor those tags. Experts say most companies have not figured out how to cost-justify the use of RFID.

What's more, RFID standards haven't been completely worked out. No company that sells supplies to the Department of Defense and to Wal-Mart is going to want to use two different RFID technologies to do the job in the event those organizations settle on different RFID platforms. So until the industry settles on standards (and it's getting closer), RFID adoption will be slow.

RFID tags are potentially very useful, but they could be abused. Privacy advocates don't necessarily condemn the technology; they just want government and industry to address the potential for abuse before rushing into anything. As long as average people are told when and where RFID tags are used and what information they track, and as long as RFID tags are deactivated when they leave a store, we will have very little to be worried about.

Wal-Mart Partners With Army Reserve
*****************************************

Associated Press
November 12, 2008

http://www.military.com/news/article/wal-mart-partners-with-army-reserve.html

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
has signed on to an Army Reserve program that allows the company and the Army to work together to recruit and train people interested in serving in the military and working for the giant retailer

Wal-Mart, the world's largest private employer, has more than 1.4 million U.S.
employees

An agreement signed Tuesday obligates Wal-Mart to interview and consider all qualified, participating soldiers for employment after they complete military occupational specialty training

Lt. Gen. Jack C.
Stultz, chief of the Army Reserve, was in Bentonville for the Veterans Day signing of the agreement

When a reserve soldier who works at Wal-Mart is called to service, the company can draw on 1 million or so citizen soldiers to help identify a qualified replacement to work in the soldier's place.
The arrangement is expected to lower costs of recruiting and training for Wal-Mart

The Army Reserve launched the program in April and has already linked with numerous companies, including Lowell-based J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., Sears Holding Corp., Manpower Inc. and Northrop Grumman Corp.
, among others

The program also helps the Army find trained professionals

"I'm honored to officially begin an enduring partnership with a company of such impressive stature, the nation's largest private employer," Stultz said.
"Wal-Mart has been a great friend to the military, and I look forward to collaborating with our newest valued partner to achieve mutual goals to attract, develop and retain a quality workforce"

Wal-Mart Chief Executive Lee Scott said the agreement fits with Wal-Mart's way of providing employment

"Our company has a longstanding commitment to providing employment opportunities in the community.
We have also long recognized those who serve in the military, and it is a privilege to assist the troops and their families with this new initiative," Scott said

Wal-Mart has taken part in a number of other military-related programs, including one to help children deal with the stress of military life and providing pre-paid phone cards to deployed troops

Wal-Mart's data center remains mystery

The Joplin Globe
By Max McCoy
Globe Investigative Writer

http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/local_story_148015054

JANE, Mo.
- Call it Area 71

Behind a fence topped with razor wire just off U.S.
Highway 71 is a bunker of a building that Wal-Mart considers so secret that it won't even let the county assessor inside without a nondisclosure agreement

The 125,000-square-foot building, tucked behind a new Wal-Mart Supercenter, is only a stone's throw from the Arkansas line and about 15 miles from corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark

There is nothing about the building to give even a hint that Wal-Mart owns it

Despite the glimpses through the fence of manicured grass and carefully placed trees, the overall impression is that this is a secure site that could withstand just about anything. Earth is packed against the sides. The green roof - meant, perhaps, to blend into the surrounding Ozarks hills - bristles with dish antennas.
On one of the heavy steel gates at the guardhouse is a notice that visitors must use the intercom for assistance

What the building houses is a mystery

Speculation

Wal-Mart's ability to crunch numbers is a favorite of conspiracy theorists, and its data centers are the corporate counterpart to Area 51 at Groom Lake in the state of Nevada.
According to one consumer activist, Katherine Albrecht, even the wildest conspiracy buff might be surprised at just how much Wal-Mart knows about its customers - and how much more it would like to know

"We were contacted about two years ago by somebody who runs a security company that had been asked in a request for proposals for ways they could link video footage with customers paying for their purchases," Albrecht said. "Wal-Mart would actually be able to view photos and video of customers paying, say, for a pack of gum.
At the time, it struck me as unbelievably outlandish because of the amount of data storage required"

But Wal-Mart, according to a 2004 New York Times article, had enough storage capacity to contain twice the amount of all the information available on the Internet. For the technically minded, the exact amount was for 460 terabytes of data.
The prefix tera comes from the Greek word for monster, and a terabyte is a trillion bytes, the basic unit of computer storage

Albrecht, founder of Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering, said she never could confirm the contractor's story.
That is not surprising, since Wal-Mart seldom comments on its data capabilities and operations

A Globe request for information about the Jane data center was referred at Wal-Mart headquarters to Carrie Thum, a senior information officer and former lobbyist for the retailer

"This is not something that we discuss publicly," Thum said. "We have no comment.
And that's off the record"

Skeleton crew

The Jane data center is an enigmatic icon to the power of data, which has helped Wal-Mart become the largest retailer in the world, and to the corporation's growing secrecy since founder Sam Walton's death in 1992.
When Wal-Mart constructed its primary data center at corporate headquarters in 1989, it wasn't much of a secret: It was the largest poured concrete structure in Arkansas at the time, and Walton himself ordered a third story

"Not only had we completely designed it, we were under construction," said Bill Ferguson, a founder of Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects in Memphis, Tenn.
"They were pouring foundations, and Sam walked across the parking lot one Friday at the end of the day and said, 'You know, let's add a third floor and put some people up there'"

Ferguson said the Bentonville data center is built on bedrock and is designed to withstand most natural and man-made disasters, but is not impregnable.
The biggest danger, he said, is the area's frequently violent thunderstorms

"We studied making it tornado-proof, which is difficult," he said. "We calculated the probability of a category 5 tornado hitting it, which was less likely than an airplane crashing into it head-on.
At the time, they decided not to"

Since then, Ferguson said, changes have been made to increase the integrity of the structure.
The data center was designed with backup generators, fuel on site, and room and board for a skeleton crew in the event an emergency required an extended stay

Ferguson said his firm learned to design data centers by working with FedEx, which also is based in Memphis, and that the 1989 Wal-Mart data center was built so that it could communicate via any means available - including copper wire, fiber optics and satellites

The firm no longer works with Wal-Mart, and Ferguson said he had no knowledge of the design or purpose of the data center in Jane.
But he suggested that Jim Liles, a Memphis engineer, might know

Liles said he was a consultant on the Jane project, and that Crossland Construction was the contractor, but he was reluctant to say much else.
"As far as what its purpose is, all that has to come from Wal-Mart," Liles said

Crossland Construction, based in Columbus, Kan., said Tim Oelke of the company's Rogers, Ark., office had been in charge.
Oelke did not return a phone call seeking comment

'Never saw a plan'

The data center was completed in 2004 and was part of a project that included the Supercenter, which opened early last year, and a warehouse.
The resulting economic impact on McDonald County, known for its rolling hills and lazy rivers, is difficult to underestimate, said Rusty Enlow

"Just a few years ago, one new store would have been a big deal," Enlow said. "And I'm not talking about a Supercenter.
Just a gas station would have generated excitement"

Now, Enlow said, the county's tax base has doubled, and land is going for about $2,100 an acre, about twice what it was before the project was announced in 2001

Enlow is chairman of the county planning commission, a body created by popular vote in 1964 but which had not met until this month. Enlow said he doesn't know why the commission never met, but he believes it was because whatever problem prompted its creation was solved before the board was appointed.
He also said he's not sure the planning commission has any real authority, or would want any (there is no zoning in the county), but that he and the other 18 members are eager to bring even more business into the county.

Globe File The Wal-Mart Data Center in McDonald County is deemed so secret the county assessor was required to sign a non-disclosure statement before entering the site to determine property value The photo was taken in 2004, when the center was nearly complete

At Wal-Mart, Worlds Largest Retail Data Warehouse Gets Even Larger
************************************************

By Evan Schuman
2004-10-13

At more than one-half a petabyte—or more than 500 terabytes—the warehouse dwarfs other retail databases

Its only fitting that the largest retailer should have the worlds largest database, but at more than one-half a petabyte, thats a lot of information, even for Wal-Mart

The vendor that is supporting those many bytes of data—NCRs Teradata division—begged for the extraordinary permission from the normally secretive Wal-Mart to announce this achievement Wednesday to make a point: It is arguing that its systems can scale without hiccups even at an extreme number

But Wal-Mart being Wal-Mart, its not saying much. While confirming that it does even now have the worlds largest datawarehouse—and that it permitted its supplier to announce that—it wont say anything other than "to acknowledge an important milestone," said Gus Whitcomb, Wal-Marts director of corporate communications.
He referred questions to Teradata, saying its their announcement

Beyond issuing a news release that Wal-Mart is "increasing its lead as the largest retail data warehouse in the world," it gave no details as to the size or specifics.
The "more than 500 terabytes" figure came from a source who didnt want a name or a company linked to the figure

The statement did, however, point out that this massive data warehouse is not solely a customer CRM system, but also serves as the base for Wal-Marts Retail Link decision-support system between Wal-Mart and its suppliers.
Retail Link allows suppliers to access large amounts of online, real-time, item-level data to help those suppliers improve operations

Back at Teradata, officials are prohibited from discussing what they have done for Wal-Mart, but one vice president did take the opportunity to argue what it means from an IT perspective

"The issues we encounter at Wal-Mart are really not all that different from smaller retail data warehouses," said Rob Berman, vice president of Teradatas retail operations.
He contrasted Wal-Marts current data warehouse size with its earliest stage, when it was literally less than one-thousandth of its current size

"When Wal-Mart started with a 320-GByte data warehouse, it used one database administrator [DBA].
Today, the number of DBAs is still fewer than five," Berman said

Unlike a typical database that can get slower as it expands—and requires more time to complete backups and virus scans, for example—Berman argues that Teradatas approach sidesteps those growth issues. "Our system is nearly 100 percent linear-scalable.
Its designed to scale without the management restrictions of other databases"

How so? "Every time we add a node, we add an equal amount of bandwidth," he said. "Every time we add a component of processing power, we add another component of bandwidth. We just grow the highway.
Every time they grow in DASD [direct-access storage device], we add I/O bandwidth"
