All of you who live in states where senators voted in favor of this need to call your U.S. Senate offices today — right now — and urge them to oppose this nefarious bill.

Call the Capitol Switchboard and ask to be directly connected to your Senator’s office: 202-224-3121.

We are about to lose our food freedoms over the bill, because unless more pressure is brought to bear, it looks like this bill will soon pass — and we will be thrust into a new era of FDA tyranny over the food supply.

Senate Bill S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act vote imminent

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Senate Bill S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act vote imminent: Would outlaw gardening and saving seeds

(NaturalNews) Senate Bill 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, has been called "the most dangerous bill in the history of the United States of America." It would grant the U.S. government new authority over the public's right to grow, trade and transport any foods. This would give Big brother the power to regulate the tomato plants in your backyard. It would grant them the power to arrest and imprison people selling cucumbers at farmer's markets. It would criminalize the transporting of organic produce if you don't comply with the authoritarian rules of the federal government.

"It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one's choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God." - Dr. Shiv Chopra, Canada Health whistleblower (http://shivchopra.com/?page_id=2)

This tyrannical law puts all food production (yes, even food produced in your own garden) under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security. Yep -- the very same people running the TSA and its naked body scanner / passenger groping programs.

This law would also give the U.S. government the power to arrest any backyard food producer as a felon (a "smuggler") for merely growing lettuce and selling it at a local farmer's market. It also sells out U.S. sovereignty over our own food supply by ceding to the authority of both the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Codex Alimentarius.

It would criminalize seed saving (http://foodfreedom.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/seeds-how-to-criminalize-them/ ), turning backyard gardeners who save heirloom seeds into common criminals. This is obviously designed to give corporations like Monsanto a monopoly over seeds.

It would create an unreasonable paperwork burden that would put small food producers out of business, resulting in more power over the food supply shifting to large multinational corporations.

I encourage you to read more about this dangerous bill at the Food Freedom blog on Wordpress: http://foodfreedom.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/seeds-how-to-criminalize-them/

Take action now or lose your right to grow your own foodSign this petition at Citizens for Health:http://www.citizens.org/?page_id=2312 Do it today! This is really important.

In addition, the Cornucopia Institute recently sent out an urgent call-to-action email containing the following information: (http://www.cornucopia.org/2010/11/action-alert-act-by-nov-17-on-senate-food-safety-legislation/)

How to protest Senate Bill 510

1) Go to Congress.org and type in your zip code in the box in the upper right hand corner.

2) Click on your Senator's name, and then on the contact tab for their phone number. You can also call the Capitol Switchboard and ask to be directly connected to your Senator's office: 202-224-3121

3) Once connected ask to speak to the legislative staff person responsible for agriculture. If they are unavailable leave a voice mail message. Be sure to include your name and phone number.

Give them this message in support of the "Tester Amendment" which would exempt small farms from S.510: "I am a constituent of Senator___________. I ask that he/she support the Tester Amendment to the food safety bill. The Tester Amendment will exempt the safest, small, owner-operator farms and food facilities and farmers who direct market their products to consumers, stores or restaurants. Food safety legislation should not create inappropriate and costly regulatory barriers to family farms and the growing healthy food movement in the drive to crack down on corporate bad actors. Please support the Tester Amendment and market opportunities for small and mid-sized family farms, and small food processing facilities.

"You may also wish to explain that you oppose the Food Safety Modernization Act in its entirety, and it is a destructive, freedom-crushing law that will destroy the future of food in America.

Remember, America has already lost control over its money supply to the Federal Reserve (nearly a hundred years ago). America has lost its health due to the medical industry and its profit-from-sickness agenda. Now we may lose our right to grow our own food and save our own seeds if Senate Bill 510 passes.

This is a dangerous, tyrannical law that would thrust the American people into an age of darkness and malnutrition. It would criminalize many of the very people growing our food and turn food production into yet another corporate monopoly.

Please take the time right now to contact your U.S. Senator and voice your strong opposition to this bill.

Senate bill S 510 vote imminent – procedural vote passes 74-25

Mike Adams
Natural News
Thursday, November 18, 2010

(NaturalNews) U.S. Senate Bill S 510 is now on the Senate floor where a vote is expected shortly. Yesterday, the Motion to Invoke Cloture passed on a vote of 74-25 (see how they voted, below), sending the bill forward for a final vote perhaps as early as today.

US Senate offices are experiencing a huge backlash of grassroots opposition to the bill — called the Food Safety Modernization Act — as virtually every health freedom organization, family farm group and even dietary supplement companies have aligned to oppose this new bill. It is being called “The most dangerous bill in United States history” and would thrust America into a new Dark Ages of FDA tyranny over seeds, foods, herbs, gardens and nutritional supplements. (http://naturalnews.com/030418_Food_Safety_Modernization_Act_seeds.html)

Opposition to the bill has been widespread. For example, the John Birch Society issued this alert yesterday:

Senate Bill 510 has already passed committee and is on the Senate calendar. It calls for enhanced expansion of FDA authority over small farms, ranches, and other food producers, establishes burdensome administrative requirements for large and small operations, and arbitrary legal authority to recall “unsafe medications,” the definition of which is not clearly established; if in line with the global standard set by Codex Alimentarius, “unsafe medications” could extend to dietary supplements and herbal products. There is language that currently exempts from heavy regulation dietary supplement manufacturers and packagers. However, the FDA and its agents are notorious for interpreting regulations their own way.

The John Birch Society insists that “My right to produce, distribute, and consume the foods of my choice is part of my right to life and liberty under the Constitution.”

Having A Supply Of Healthy Foods That Last Just Makes Sense (AD)

I happen to agree. The FDA has no business telling us we can’t buy raw milk, or we can’t save our own garden seeds or grow organic produce and sell it at the farmer’s market.

Is Monsanto Evil? A 10th grader investigates -VDO

Is Monsanto Evil? A 10th grader investigates -VDO

May 9, 2010
By Power Point Paradise

High school student Amelia chose Monsanto as the subject of her year-long 10th grade project. Her goal was to research the company and ultimately answer the question, “Is Monsanto Evil?”

[Below the You Tube Video is the text of the video, give or take a few mistakes due to the low volume of the sound track.]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3UVYdRTQoU

Is Monsanto Evil?

According to their website, “Monsanto is an agricultural company. We apply innovation and technology to help farmers around the world produce more while conserving more. We help farmers grow yield sustainably do they can be successful, produce healthier foods, better animal feeds, and more fiber, while also reducing agriculture’s impact on our environment.”

As you can see they appear to be a very environmentally friendly and responsible company. They have a building operating out of St. Louis. They were company of the year in Forbes Magazine, and have over 27.000 employees and a gross revenue of about 2.109.000.000 $
They seem like the perfect company according to their self projected image, but the question is, “Are they really?” [MUSIC]

The Vietnam war began in the late 1950-ies and ended on April 30 1975. During this period from 1951 until 1968, the United States dropped 80 million liters of Agent Orange over Vietnam covering over 6 million acres. Agent Orange is an herbicidal de-foliant used in the war to reveal enemy hide outs and destroy their food supplies. More than 4.8 million Vietnamese were exposed to the chemical.

Agent Orange is a toxic substance known to cause lethal diseases such as various skin diseases, assorted cancers and death. In children the effects are much more severe. Children since have been born with cleft palates, mental disabilities, deformations, hernias, blindness, paralysis, poly-dactyls, and other serious diseases due to the apparent exposure to the toxin.

Around 400.000 or so children were maimed initially to exposure, 500.0000 children were born with birth effects shortly there after, and around 2 million people have developed cancers since agent Orange was first dropped over Vietnam.

Now who engineered and put this chemical in use? “The Forbes magazine 2010 company of the year their responsible and environmentally stewardship leader … Monsanto!”

Not only has this company been tied to agent orange, aspartame, nutrasweet and the dayton project, but it has also been a target of so many lawsuits that a majority of its profits go to ensuring that they have the best for you.

The most notable lawsuit was in 1997. “Monsanto versus Percy Schmeiser”
A few Canadian farmers lived next door. One used the Monsanto round up ready canola and the other who didn’t. Allegedly when the blue Monsanto patented seeds from a neighbour yard flew to Percy Schmeiser. Without knowing Schmeiser was growing Monsanto product round up. When this was exposed Monsanto sued Schmeiser for patent infringement, asking for about 400.000 dollars.

The court decided that Monsanto’s patent was valid, but did not require Schmeiser to pay any money, because he supposedly did not profit anymore while Round Up ready Canola was in his field.

But even though he did not pay Monsanto, how was he to know that his fields were contaminated with their product? And how are they being entitled to so much money for such an insignificant issue?

Now Percy Schmeiser is still an enemy of Monsanto. Their website says that “he is not a hero He is simply a patent infringer who knows how to tell a good story.”

However he is still regarded as a hero and an icon in the anti GMO campaign or genetically modified organism, also sometimes called “Frankenfood”.

The main reason Monsanto is famous for introducing into the agricultural mainstream. Basically it involves replacing, deleting or adding of genes into strains of DNA of the produce.

This alters the chemical make-up of the food allegedly benefiting it in many ways. Food can become more visibly appealing and some even believe even more nutritous. But the bottom line is, nobody knows the real chemical make up of the food contains, apart from Monsanto experts.

[Advert: "When a herbicide is effective as ROUND UP...]
http://bytestyle.tv/content/take-replace-roundup-challenge

Round Up products made by Monsanto include V T triple Pro, Round Up Ready 2 yield, Round Up Ready Canola, Round Up Ready Suger Beet, Round Up Ready Flax Cotton, Bollgard Two, and Bollgard with Round Up Ready Flax, and Smart Stax. But Monsanto’s arguebly most succesful product remains to be the Round Up Ready Soybean.

Round Up is known chemically as glycol, a toxic used to kill weeds. The logic behind the injecting DNA into the plant, is to control weeds by not destroying the produce. Think of this as a vaccination. Except that while you eat this soy bean you are also ingesting thimerosol and mercury containing preservatives.

Another instance for eating lethal chemicals is in the case of a new released potato, which is so vile that even the fast-food giant MacDonald has banned it from its french fries. By EPA regulation this potato is considered to be a pesticide. It is even lethal to the Colorado potato beetle.

The staggering truth is that there are over a 100 million acres of cross planted genetically modified seeds in the continental United States. To put it simply, Capitalist America is obsessed with GMO cornfields.

SONG—
Worldwide the land devoted to GMO crops is gone up 5,900% in its senior period.
The impact of this planting and harvesting will not be known for generations. And the lack of research behind this technology just seems to be the excuse for Monsanto to keep taking advantage of how little interest there is in genetic modification

However, their positive eco-friendly image makes America love Monsanto even more. Nobody acknowledges their close ties with the government or where their profits go to. Everybody simply turns a blind eye to the blatant corruption conducted by this company and their deliberate exploitation of workers and farmers.

Their old image of chemical genetic engineering and science fiction like experiments, was almost unnoticeably replaced due to their control over the media and government.

From my research experience I have determined that Monsanto’s power over America’s food industry, by a lack of a better word, is ridiculous, and it can not continue.

The ethics of their company comes down to a “he said, she said” argument. They deny introducing terminator seed technology. They insist Percy Schmeiser planted their patent in his field. They claim GMOs are harmless to the environment and to the body.

Regardless, most Americans are unfamiliar with the company and those who have heard of Monsanto are unsurprised due to the power of their brainwashing propaganda.

Read a book by Michael Pollen or watch Food Inc. Take a look at their website and form your own opinion! Evil or not, the corporation with so much power over the food industry must be exposed. The uneducated simply must be informed. The Word must be spread!

To start:

We must buy all organic non GMO products.
We must demand accountability for Monsanto’s irresponsible spreading of GMOs into the supermarkets of America with insufficient testing on the impact to consumers and into the environment.
Please go to Byte style and sign the online petition.
Pledge not to buy any roundup ready products.
Write your congressional representatives about the outrages Monsanto continues to commit every day.
Write the editors of Forbes magazine and ask them what in the world were they thinking.
Get involved!
We can save the planet and keep it safe for future generations

HERE IS THE VIDEO. GOD BLESS THIS LITTLE GIRL!

What will you do to expose this evil company!
Here’s the “Replace Roundup” challenge Amelia referred to in her video.
I have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing from Amelia

* * * * * *

I’ve gotten some heat lately about my personal antipathy for Monsanto, since I’m a libertarian and all. Here are just a few of the reasons I choose not to support them:

* They work hand-in-glove with the government to create policies that make it difficult for new competitors to enter the market
* They give the Free Market a bad name: They spent $8 million lobbying last year — what small farmer could possibly compete with that?

Sure, as a corporation they have a right to spend their money however they please, but when our political system is so obviously influenced by whomever spends the most money, companies like Monsanto end up buying a competitive advantage. This is NOT the Free Market, but the Free Market gets blamed when companies like Monsanto take advantage of a failed government system to create policies that increase their profits and prevent competition.

* I personally don’t like their ethics, or the way they do business. I think Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) have not been properly researched, and that our ecosystem has been irreparably altered (in known and unknown ways) by their widespread release.

* As a libertarian, if I don’t like the company, all I can do about it is 1) choose not to support them and avoid consuming their products; and 2) let other people know why I don’t support them.

If you agree, please join me in using alternatives to Monsanto products! If not, you are quite free to continue using them.

Learn more about Monsanto, GMOs and the struggle of small farms HERE.

Also Monsanto is creating havoc allover the world in Third World countries like India, where they introduced a new GMO cotton seed. When the poor farmers were talked into useing it, they discovered that the produce needed more water and pesticides, for which they didn’t have the money. Thousands of the farmers committed suicide, as they were unable to feed their families and face the ruin of their already simple farms.

A COMPREHENSIVE LISTING OF neurotoxins

Written by: Marty L. Hinz, MD

A COMPREHENSIVE LISTING OF neurotoxins

neurotoxins are substances which cause damage to the structures of the brain leading to chronic disease.

Neuron bundles of the brain conduct the electrical energy needed by the brain to function normally and for people for feel normal without symptoms of disease relating to damaged neurons. In Parkinson’s disease when enough of the neurons in the substantia nigra become damaged fine motor control is affected and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease develop.

In 1998 NeuroResearch Clinics began to connect the dots on other chronic neurotransmitter diseases. When neurotoxins do enough damage to the neuron bundles of the brain chronic depression, chronic anxiety, attention deficit (ADD and ADHD), chronic panic attacks, chronic insomnia, chronic fibromyalgia, chronic dementia (deterioration of brain function), and a host of other diseases develop.

The cause of Parkinson’s disease and all the other diseases are the same, “damage to the neurons of the brain”. The primary cause of neuron damage is neurotoxins although anything that can cause damage, such as head injury, can be a cause symptoms of disease to develop.

The cause is the same (neuron damage), the treatment is the same, when you increase neurotransmitter levels of the brain high enough the remaining viable neurons conduct enough electricity for relief of symptoms. Beyond that the goal of relief of symptoms is the goal of protecting the brain from further damage in order to prevent progression of the disease.

There is a host of reasons why one person will develop disease and another person will not develop disease when exposed to the same level of neurotoxins. The important thing is to manage the situation properly, prevent further brain damage, remove the toxins, and compensate for neuron damage causing disease symptoms. In studying the situation it is apparent that as the United States became more industrialized using more chemicals the incidence of neurotransmitter related disease has increased. This is no coincidence

Food: The Ultimate Secret Exposed

TheAlexJonesChannel | July 29, 2010
http://www.infowars.com/food-the-ultimate-secret-exposed/

Alex Jones addresses one of the darkest modes of power the globalists have used to control the population-- food. The adulteration of the planet's staple crops, genetically-altered species and intentionally-altered water, food and air all amount to a Eugenics operation to weaken the masses and achieve full spectrum domination.

People the world over, but especially in the United States are under chemical attack. Deadly and dangerous toxins ranging from Aspartame to Fluoride, GMO, Mercury-tainting, pesticides, cross-species chimeras, plastic compounds in chicken, high fructose corn syrup, cloned meat, rBGH and new aggressive GM species of salmon have all entered into our diets and environments-- whether we want it or not.

Many of these substances knowingly cause or are linked with sterility, low birth weight, miscarriages, smaller or deformed offspring, as well as organ failure, cancer, brain tumors and Death itself, what you DON'T know about on your grocery shelves can hurt you. Further, Alex demonstrates that a pattern of buried studies, fraudulent statistics and a will reduce global population all point to the deliberate criminal poisoning of the food and water supply.

Suffer no fools and warn those you love about need to stop their food from being used as a Depopulation-weapon against us all. Please share this important video with everyone, so the truth about these substances can be known.

Food Is Power and the Powerful Are Poisoning Us

Food Is Power and the Powerful Are Poisoning Us

Our most potent political weapon is food. If we take back our agriculture, if we buy and raise produce locally, we can begin to break the grip of corporations that control a food system as fragile, unsafe and destined for collapse as our financial system. If we continue to allow corporations to determine what we eat, as well as how food is harvested and distributed, then we will become captive to rising prices and shortages and increasingly dependent on cheap, mass-produced food filled with sugar and fat. Food, along with energy, will be the most pressing issue of our age. And if we do not build alternative food networks soon, the social and political ramifications of shortages and hunger will be devastating.

The effects of climate change, especially with widespread droughts in Australia, Africa, California and the Midwest, coupled with the rising cost of fossil fuels, have already blighted the environments of millions. The poor can often no longer afford a balanced diet. Global food prices increased an average of 43 percent since 2007, according to the International Monetary Fund. These increases have been horrific for the approximately 1 billion people—one-sixth of the world’s population—who subsist on less than $1 per day. And 162 million of these people survive on less than 50 cents per day. The global poor spend as much as 60 percent of their income on food, according to the International Food Policy Research Institute.

There have been food riots in many parts of the world, including Austria, Hungary, Mexico, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Yemen, Mauritania, Senegal and Uzbekistan. Russia and Pakistan have introduced food rationing. Pakistani troops guard imported wheat. India has banned the export of rice, except for high-end basmati. And the shortages and price increases are being felt in the industrialized world as we continue to shed hundreds of thousands of jobs and food prices climb. There are 33.2 million Americans, or one in nine, who depend on food stamps. And in 20 states as many as one in eight are on the food stamp program, according to the Food Research Center. The average monthly benefit was $113.87 per person, leaving many, even with government assistance, without adequate food. The USDA says 36.2 million Americans, or 11 percent of households, struggle to get enough food, and one-third of them have to sometimes skip or cut back on meals. Congress allocated some $54 billion for food stamps this fiscal year, up from $39 billion last year. In the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, costs will be $60 billion, according to estimates.

Food shortages have been tinder for social upheaval throughout history. But this time around, because we have lost the skills to feed and clothe ourselves, it will be much harder for most of us to become self-sustaining. The large agro-businesses have largely wiped out small farmers. They have poisoned our soil with pesticides and contaminated animals in filthy and overcrowded stockyards with high doses of antibiotics and steroids. They have pumped nutrients and phosphorus into water systems, causing algae bloom and fish die-off in our rivers and streams. Crop yields, under the onslaught of changing weather patterns and chemical pollution, are declining in the Northeast, where a blight has nearly wiped out the tomato crop. The draconian Food Modernization Safety Act, another gift from our governing elite to corporations, means small farms will only continue to dwindle in number. Sites such as La Via Campesina do a good job of tracking these disturbing global trends.

“The entire economy built around food is unsafe and unethical,” activist Henry Harris of the Food Security Roundtable told me. The group builds distribution systems between independent farmers and city residents.

“Food is the greatest place for communities to start taking back power,” he said. “The national food system is collapsing by degrees. More than 50 percent of what we eat comes from the Central Valley of California. What happens when gasoline becomes $5 a gallon or drought sweeps across the cropland? The monolithic system of food production is highly unstable. It has to be replaced very soon with small, diverse sources that provide greater food security.”

Cornell University recently did a study to determine whether New York state could feed itself. The research is described in two articles published in 2006 and 2008 by the journal Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems. If all agricultural land were in use, and food distribution were optimized to minimize the total distance that food travels, New York state could, the researchers found, have 34 percent of its food needs met from within its boundaries. This is not encouraging news to those who live in New York City. New York once relied on New Jersey, still known as the Garden State, instead of having food shipped from across the country. But New Jersey farms have largely given way to soulless housing developments. Farming communities upstate, their downtowns boarded up and desolate, have been gutted by industrial farming.

The ties most Americans had to rural communities during the Great Depression kept many alive. A barter economy replaced the formal economy. Families could grow food or had relatives to feed them. But in a world where we do not know where our food comes from, or how to produce it, we have become vulnerable. And many will be forced, as food prices continue to rise, to shift to a diet of cheap, fatty, mass-produced foods, already a staple of the nation’s poor. Junk food, a major factor in obesity, diabetes and heart disease, is often the only food those in the inner city can buy because supermarkets and nutritious food are geographically and financially beyond reach. As the economy continues to deteriorate, the middle class will soon join them.

“It is clear to anyone who looks carefully at any crowd that we are wasting our bodies exactly as we are wasting our land,” Wendell Berry observed in “The Unsettling of America.” “Our bodies are fat, weak, joyless, sickly, ugly, the virtual prey of the manufacturers of medicine and cosmetics. Our bodies have become marginal; they are growing useless like our ‘marginal land’ because we have less and less use for them.

After the games and idle flourishes of modern youth, we use them only as shipping cartons to transport our brains and our few employable muscles back and forth to work.” Berry, who lives on a farm in Kentucky where his family has farmed for generations, argues that local farming is fundamental to sustaining communities. Industrial farming, he says, has estranged us from the land. It has rendered us powerless to provide for ourselves. It has left us complicit in the corporate destruction of the ecosystem. Its moral cost, Berry argues, has been as devastating as its physical cost.

“The people will eat what the corporations decide for them to eat,” writes Berry. “They will be detached and remote from the sources of their life, joined to them only by corporate tolerance. They will have become consumers purely—consumptive machines—which is to say, the slaves of producers. What … model farms very powerfully suggest, then, is that the concept of total control may be impossible to confine within the boundaries of the specialist enterprise—that it is impossible to mechanize production without mechanizing consumption, impossible to make machines of soil, plants, and animals without making machines also of people.”

The nascent effort by communities to reclaim local food production is the first step toward reclaiming lives severed and fragmented by corporate culture. It is more than a return to local food production. It is a return to community. It brings us back to the values that sustain community. It is a return to the recognition of the fragility, interconnectedness and sacredness of all living systems and our dependence on each other. It turns back to an ethic that can save us.

“[The commercial] revolution … , ” writes Berry, “did not stop with the subjugation of the Indians, but went on to impose substantially the same catastrophe upon the small farms and the farm communities, upon the shops of small local tradesmen of all sorts, upon the workshops of independent craftsmen, and upon the households of citizens. It is a revolution that is still going on. The economy is still substantially that of the fur trade, still based on the same general kinds of commercial items: technology, weapons, ornaments, novelties, and drugs. The one great difference is that by now the revolution has deprived the mass of consumers of any independent access to the staples of life: clothing, shelter, food, even water. Air remains the only necessity that the average user can still get for himself, and the revolution has imposed a heavy tax on that by way of pollution. Commercial conquest is far more thorough and final than military defeat.

“The inevitable result of such an economy,” Berry adds, “is that no farm or any other usable property can safely be regarded by anyone as a home, no home is ultimately worthy of our loyalty, nothing is ultimately worth doing, and no place or task or person is worth a lifetime’s devotion. ‘Waste,’ in such an economy, must eventually include several categories of humans—the unborn, the old, ‘disinvested’ farmers, the unemployed, the ‘unemployable.’ Indeed, once our homeland, our source, is regarded as a resource, we are all sliding downward toward the ash heap or the dump.”

CANOLA OIL - RAPE IN A DIFFERENT GUISE

From: Shari

SOMETHING WORTH READING-------
CANOLA OIL - RAPE IN A DIFFERENT GUISE

Before you buy your next bottle of cooking oil...
I think it's important that as many people as possible KNOW about the origins of this product. Then, if you choose to buy it, at least you're doing so with your eyes open.

Dear Editors

Recently I bought a cooking oil that's new to our supermarkets, Canola Oil. I tried it because the label assured me it was lowest in "bad" fats.

However, when I had used half the bottle, I concluded that the label told me surprisingly little else and I started to wonder: where does canola oil come from? Olive oil comes from olives, peanut oil from peanuts, sunflower oil from sunflowers; but what is a canola? There was nothing on the label to enlighten me, which I thought odd. So, I did some investigating on the Internet. There are plenty of official Canola sites lauding this new "wonder" oil with all its low-fat health benefits. It takes a little longer to find sites that tell the less palatable details.

Here are just a few facts everyone should know before buying anything containing canola. Canola is not the name of a natural plant but a made-up word, from the words "Canada" and "oil". Canola is a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants. According to AgriAlternatives, The Online Innovation, and Technology Magazine for Farmers, "By nature, these rapeseed oils, which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are... toxic to humans and other animals". (This, by the way, is one of the websites singing the praises of the new canola industry.)

Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent. I have been using it (in very diluted form, as per instructions) to kill the aphids on my roses for the last two years. It works very well; it suffocates them. Ask for it at your nursery. Rape is an oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base and as a illuminate for color pages in magazines. It is an industrial oil. It is not a food. Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans. Rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and Europe between 1986 and 1991, when it was thrown out. Remember the "Mad Cow disease" scare, when millions of cattle in the UK were slaughtered in case of infecting humans? Cattle were being fed on a mixture containing material from dead sheep, and sheep suffer from a disease called "scrapie". It was thought this was how "Mad Cow" began and started to infiltrate the human chain. What is interesting is that when rape oil was removed from animal feed, 'scrapie' disappeared.

We also haven't seen any further reports of "Mad Cow" since rape oil was removed from the feed. Perhaps not scientifically proven, but interesting all the same. US and Canadian farmers grow genetically engineered rapeseed and manufacturers use its oil (canola) in thousands of processed foods, with the blessings of Canadian and US government watchdog agencies. The canola supporting websites say that canola is safe to use. They admit it was developed from the rapeseed, but insist that through genetic engineering it is no longer rapeseed, but "canola" instead.

Except canola means "Canadian oil"; and the plant is still a rape plant, albeit genetically modified. The new name provides perfect cover for commercial interests wanting to make millions. Look at the ingredients list on labels. Apparently peanut oil is being replaced with rape oil. You'll find it in an alarming number of processed foods. There's more, but to conclude: rape oil was the source of the chemical warfare agent mustard gas, which was banned after blistering the lungs and skins of hundred of thousands of soldiers and civilians during W.W.I. Recent French reports indicate that it was again in use during the Gulf War.

Check products for ingredients. If the label says, "may contain the following" and lists canola oil, you know it contains canola oil because is the cheapest oil and the Canadian government subsidizes it to industries involved in food processing.

I don't know what you'll be cooking with tonight, but I'll be using olive oil and old-fashioned butter, from a genetically unmodified cow.
Here is more information.......... Canola oil from the rape seed, referred to as the Canadian oil because Canada is mainly responsible for it being marketed in the USA. The Canadian government and industry paid our Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) $50 million dollars to have canola oil placed on the (GRAS) List, "Generally Recognized As Safe". Thus a new industry was created. Laws were enacted affecting international trade, commerce, and traditional diets. Studies with lab. animals were disastrous. Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals, and thyroid gland. When canola oil was withdrawn from their diets, the deposits dissolved but scar tissue remained on all vital organs. No studies on humans were made before money was spent to promote Canola oil in the USA. Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare fatal degenerative disease caused by a build up long-chain fatty acids (c22 to c28) which destroys the myelin (protective sheath) of the nerves. Canola oil is a very long chain fatty a acid oil (c22). Those who will defend canola oil say that the Chinese and Indians have used it for centuries with no effect, however it was in an unrefined form (taken from FATS THAT HEAL AND FATS THAT KILL by Udo Erasmus). My cholesterol level was 150. After a year using Canola oil I tested 260. I
switched back to pure olive oil and it has taken 5 years to get it down to 160. Thus began this project to find answers since most Doctors will say that Canola oil is O.K.

My sister spilled Canola oil on a piece of fabric, after 5 pre-treatings and harsh washings, the oil spot still showed. She stopped using Canola oil, wondering what it did to our insides if it could not be removed from cloth easily.

Our Father bred birds, always checking labels to insure there was no rape seed in their food. He said, "The birds will eat it, but they do not live very long.". A friend, who worked for only 9 mo. as a quality control taster at an apple-chip factory where Canola oil was used exclusively for frying, developed numerous health problems. These included loose teeth & gum disease; numb hands and
feet; swollen arms and legs upon rising in the morning; extreme joint pain especially in hands, cloudy vision, constipation with stools like black marbles, hearing loss; skin tears from being bumped; lack of energy; hair loss and heart pains. It has been five years since she has worked there and still has some joint pain, gum disease, and numbness. A fellow worker, about 30 years old, who ate very little product, had a routine check up and found that his blood vessels were like those of an 80 year old man. Two employees fed the waste product to baby calves and their hair fell out. After removing the fried apple chips from the diet their hair grew back in.
My daughter and her girls were telling jokes. Stephanie hit her mom's arm with the back of a butter knife in a gesture, "Oh mom" not hard enough to hurt. My daughters arm split open like it was rotten. She called me to ask what could have caused it. I said, "I'll bet anything that you are using Canola oil". Sure enough, there was a big gallon jug in the pantry.

Rape seed oil is a penetrating oil, to be used in light industry, not for human consumption. It contains a toxic substance. Even after the processing to reduce the erucic acid content, it is still a penetrating oil. We have found that it turns rancid very fast. Also it leaves a residual rancid odor on clothing.

Rape seed oil used for stir-frying in China found to emit cancer causing chemicals. (Rapeseed oil smoke causes lung cancer) Amal Kumar Maj. The Wall Street JournaL June 7, 1995 pB6(W) pB6 (E) col 1(11 col in). Compiled
by Darleen Bradley.

Canola oil is a health hazard to use as a cooking oil or salad oil. It is not the healthy oil we thought it was. It is not fit for human consumption, do not eat canola oil, it can hurt you. Polyunsaturated or not, this is a bad oil.
